The community of Marlborough is a culturally diverse neighbourhood within Calgary. There are many new Canadians trying to adjust to life in a new city. We hope to shine God’s light to our neighbours as we serve Him in Marlborough.
We have been given a rich opportunity to live out Isaiah 58:6-7:
“This is the kind of fasting I want:
Free those who are wrongly imprisoned;
lighten the burden of those who work for you.
Let the oppressed go free,
and remove the chains that bind people.
Share your food with the hungry,
and give shelter to the homeless.
Give clothes to those who need them,
and do not hide from relatives who need your help.
FriendSpeak is our simple ESL program that happens year round. We provide those who need to practice their English with a partner to spend one hour a week in conversation together. This may lead to more conversations throughout the week, it all depends on the partners. The meeting time is flexible and set around your schedule. If you know of someone (maybe yourself) who could use some help practicing English, please contact us.
Since February 2016, we have been meeting with a group of men and women, for various reasons, who find themselves down on their luck. For many it is their only chance to gather at a table and share a meal, this has been quite impactful. We have established friendships with a core group of people and we have been blessed by our time together.
We meet on Wednesdays at 11:30 and you are welcome to join us and be a part of this ministry. You can help in this ministry by cooking a lunch, serving the meal or donating funds.
Brown Bag Lunches
We have been partnering with Brown Bags for Calgary Kids for a number of years. This organization provides the funds for food to make lunches for kids around Calgary. We have a shopper, a scheduler and many volunteers that make 60 lunches a week to deliver to two community schools.
For almost 30 years we have offered a Clothing Giveaway. We solicit clothes from our members and people in our community and then we are able to bless those in our neighbourhood with warm winter clothes and necessities for their families. Watch this page for dates and times.
